JOIN US TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR WOMEN's VOICes.

What is this project all about?

We are a community of people who believe that all humans should be treated equally.

We join together to recognise that women* face more discrimination, disrespect, financial challenges, harassment and more violence from intimate partners than men*.

Our community raises awareness by proudly sharing and living the “I’m Listening” message.

We create change by funding projects that create space for women’s voices, making visible the support for women’s equality and encouraging everyone (especially men) to deeply listen to women.

We commit to making more space for the voices of all women.

Who is involved?

Oh my! So many awesome people are standing behind this project.

I'm Listening is made possible by an Advisory Panel of Women:

  • Bernadette McDonald

  • Caroline Buisson

  • Lina Patel

  • Patty Kinnersly

  • Alison McDonald

The project has also had invaluable, informal support by a group of men who are deeply committed to creating gender equity. Howard Prosser, Matt Wicking, David Kaldor and Cameron Elliott have all helped make this project possible.

My mate Chris Haggart and I (Luke) are the core team supporting the I'm Listening project. We work together to create projects that help people appreciate how they can use the resources they have to make the world a better place.

The men working on this project would like to:

  • Acknowledge that women have been working for generations on creating gender equity

  • Men have to take responsibility for their/our part in making this happen

  • Our intention is for the "I'm Listening" project to be an example of that action

  • We are open to learning as we go, if you have any comments, questions or feedback please get in touch.

Listening by Hand (the performance work that demonstrates our commitment to listening) is made possible by the incredible input of:

What projects are we currently supporting?

Listening by hand is a new Live Art performance work by artist and activist Luke Hockley that is premiering in the Melbourne Fringe Festival. Luke will invite women, one at a time, to talk to him about their experiences of being a woman. As he listens he will be hand sewing a dress shirt for himself as a demonstration of his commitment to be a man who is able to care for himself and create space for the voices of others.

What's next?

Our goals are:

  • To pay women to be part of the the Listening by Hand performance support team.

  • To create a women's storytelling performance event - curated and hosted by women.

  • To support the creation of a podcast of the women's stories from the Listening by Hand performance season (if the women choose to share them in this way).

  • More projects to amplify women’s voices in society. (Like touring the Listening by Hand performance work, further investment in the podcast, training for men to develop deep listening skills...)

Maree

This is Maree and Luke. Maree is supporting Luke in designing the performance experience for Listening by Hand.

Luke says:

"When I'm trying to get something outrageous, ambitious and life changing done I call Maree and get her opinion. She is smart & funny, one of the best problem solvers I've ever met. An incredible creative eye and a generous heart. She knows her stuff."
